Lead Brewer / Quality Specialist (Full Time)

Frontaal Brewing Co. has been on the forefront of the craft beer scene since 2015. In 2024, we can proudly say that we are still one of the fastest-growing breweries in the Netherlands. In the last few years we’ve built up the largest beer community in the Netherlands, including up to 6.000 people who are indirectly are co-owner of Frontaal. You might know us of our hero Juice Punch or have drank one of our many one-offs in the last few years. Our mission is simple yet straightforward: crafting flavorful, both traditional and contemporary beers to take our position as one of the top-notch Dutch microbreweries. The slogan "Beer For Thought" isn't arbitrary; it envisions our core values. At Frontaal we place significant emphasis on fostering a sense of teamwork. Our team currently comprises over 50 people, including brewers, sales, marketers, and barstaff.

As of 2024, we’ve moved into a brand-new building in the beautiful town of Breda with a state-of-the-art, 60 hectoliter, automated brewing installation from ROLEC, alongside with a new, fully automated canningline. With our ever-growing team and brewery, we’re on the lookout for a Lead Brewer / Quality Specialist to join our stellar brewteam!

Who we are

This is all we want to do, we brew beers that inspire, excite and challenge you to drink something different. There are so many flavours and variations to explore, which is why we brew over 36 unique specials and 12 barrel aged beers every year. We think from the principle "F*ck the status quo" and we do not make any concessions in quality. No mediocre beer is brewed in our brewery, we think freely and let our creativity flourish.

Lead Brewer / Quality Specialist (Full Time)

Responsibilities:

Quality:

  • Establish and maintain standards for health and safety, serving as the lead contact for certification and compliance.

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive quality program, including the establishment of a fit-for-purpose laboratory and the creation of standards and specifications for Quality KPIs.

  • Build and maintain controls and documentation procedures in collaboration with the production team, overseeing sampling, data collection, and regular sensory tastings.

  • Monitor performance by analyzing relevant data and provide actionable recommendations to enhance and maintain quality throughout the production process.

  • Set quality requirements for external suppliers and ensure production staff are informed of any impacts based on supplier Coa’s.

  • Provide training, tools, and techniques to empower the team to achieve top-quality standards and actively participate in strategic discussions for production.

  • You are directly accountable to the CEO.

Brewing:

  • Take an active role in all aspects of wort production within the Hot-Block, serving as a point of contact for all brewers and contributing to the design of new beers and improvements to existing recipes.

  • Utilize expertise in Brewmaxx software to lead processes from wort production to CIPs and transfers, while also overseeing the design and creation of Pop-Up and EXP concepts.

  • Oversee the Cold-Block to ensure fermentation and cellar management meet the high standards of Frontaal, specializing in cold-side best practices and SOPs.

  • Serve as a specialist in various cold-side processes, including dry hopping, centrifugation, pasteurization, and tanker transfers.

  • Provide R&D consultation to keep Frontaal at the forefront of the craft beer movement, collaborating with the Engineering or Operations Manager.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in production areas, prioritize safety, and actively seek opportunities for process and quality improvements.

  • You work closely with the production team lead to ensure that beers are optimally presented in the tank

Lead Brewer / Quality Specialist (Full Time)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Brewing Science, Food Science, or related field preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in brewing operations, with a focus on quality assurance and control.

  • Strong knowledge of brewing processes, equipment, and best practices.

  • Experience with laboratory procedures, sensory analysis, and data analysis.

  • Experience with brewing software (similar to Brewmaxx / Orchestrated BEER / Breww);

  • Demonstrated ability in recipe formulation and the creation of innovative beer recipes.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to coach and train team members effectively.

  • Detail-oriented with a passion for excellence and continuous improvement.

  • Strong English spoken and written communication skills (Dutch is not mandatory).
